Complete Wisp’s quests to open the Enchanted Tree, collect the free Butterfly Net inside, then catch butterflies outside in Enchanted Forest during Butterfly Bloom. Save all four tiers for Enchanted Essence or trade surplus catches up at the converter.
Where to get the Butterfly Net
The Butterfly Net is free inside the Enchanted Tree. It is not the Cricket Banjo, a mushroom-puzzle reward or a pet hatched from an egg.
- Find Wisp near the right-hand entrance of Enchanted Forest.
- Complete the three tasks: steal 20 Forest eggs, fuse one Forest animal, then steal one Eternal Egg. Claim each completed row.
- Select Return the Wisp and enter the spiral-marked tree door.
- Collect the net inside, equip it and return outdoors.
For the location map, matching-pet fusion requirements or a locked quest, use the full Wisp guide. You can start the butterfly route without completing the optional musical puzzle.
When does Butterfly Bloom start?
Community schedules place Butterfly Bloom every 30 minutes, at :15 and :45 past the hour. Treat those as planning times and follow the event announcement in your current server. A start time is not a promise that butterflies remain available until the next event.
Have the net ready before the announcement. If you arrive between blooms, use the gap to check your inventory, make conversions and return to the outdoor Forest. Waiting beside the indoor shrine will not put you among the swarms.
How to catch butterflies in Steal An Egg
- Go outside into Enchanted Forest. The tree contains the net and exchange stations; the event swarms appear in the outdoor biome.
- Keep the Butterfly Net equipped. Move through nearby butterflies and use the net’s displayed control. Do not switch back to the bat while trying to catch.
- Watch the pickup feedback. A catch notification names the butterfly and updates the owned count. Use that feedback to distinguish a successful catch from simply running past a swarm.
- Collect higher tiers when they appear. Radiant butterflies can be caught directly; converting lower tiers is an alternative, not the only route.
- Check inventory before exchanging. Your catches can be saved for later trade-ups and Essence crafting rather than spent immediately after every bloom.
There is no reliable universal “Essence per hour” figure: your catches, direct higher-tier pickups and travel time change the result. Plan around what your inventory is missing rather than an advertised drop-rate promise.
Butterfly types and conversion ratios
The converter inside the Enchanted Tree trades upward through four tiers:
| Give | Receive |
|---|---|
| 10 Emerald | 1 Sapphire |
| 10 Sapphire | 1 Amethyst |
| 50 Amethyst | 1 Radiant |
The converter is not the Mutation Shrine. Converting changes your butterfly inventory. The shrine spends a complete set of materials to create Enchanted Essence.
What to keep before converting butterflies
For one Essence, reserve 240 Emerald + 115 Sapphire + 40 Amethyst + 1 Radiant. All four requirements must be available together.
- Keep the first 240 Emerald for the recipe; convert only surplus toward missing Sapphire.
- Keep 115 Sapphire before converting extras toward Amethyst.
- Keep 40 Amethyst. If you have no Radiant, you need another 50 Amethyst to make one.
- If you catch a Radiant directly, keep it and work on the remaining three stacks instead of converting unnecessarily.
Example: why 50 Amethyst is not enough
Suppose you have exactly 240 Emerald, 115 Sapphire, 50 Amethyst and no Radiant. Converting all 50 Amethyst gets the Radiant but leaves zero Amethyst. You still need 40 for the recipe. With those lower-tier stacks already reserved, you would need 90 Amethyst before trading 50 away—or a direct Radiant catch.
Emerald-only cost: 10,390, not a required catch target
If every material came from Emerald trade-ups, the arithmetic is 240 + (115 × 10) + (40 × 100) + (1 × 5,000) = 10,390 Emerald. This is a conversion-only equivalent, not the number you must catch. Direct Sapphire, Amethyst and Radiant pickups reduce the lower-tier farming needed.
What are butterflies used for?
Redeem the four-tier recipe at the Enchanted Mutation Shrine for one Enchanted Essence. It applies Enchanted to an eligible unhatched egg with a guaranteed application result. The 100% label does not mean a guaranteed rare hatch or a +100% income boost.
For how to use the item, its effects and other mutation options, continue to the Enchanted Mutation guide. Wisp opens the tree; butterfly collection is the separate crafting step afterward.
No butterflies, no net or “Need More Butterflies”?
The tree is still locked
Check all three Wisp tasks for a remaining Claim button, then use Return the Wisp. Completing the final counter without claiming and returning does not finish the unlock sequence.
I am inside the tree but see no butterflies
Collect the net and head outside to Enchanted Forest. Wait for Butterfly Bloom’s server announcement; the shrine room is not the catch area.
I run through butterflies but my count does not increase
Check the net is equipped and follow its current control prompt. Look for the catch notification. If the server seems delayed, check inventory before spending or repeating the same action.
The shrine says I need more butterflies
Read all four recipe rows. A recent trade-up may have used Emerald, Sapphire or Amethyst you had set aside. The recipe cannot be paid with one combined total.
Butterfly FAQ
Can I catch Radiant butterflies without converting?
Yes. Player walkthroughs show or describe direct higher-tier catches, including Radiant. You can also make one from 50 Amethyst.
Do I need the banjo or hidden fusion room?
No. Those belong to the separate mushroom and hidden-room route, not the net or Essence recipe.
Do I have to craft after every bloom?
No. Save catches until all recipe requirements are met. Avoid trading up simply because a conversion button is available.
Are butterflies pets?
The Emerald, Sapphire, Amethyst and Radiant catches are collection materials for the converter and Mutation Shrine, not passive-income pets in your base.
